edible treats from thessalonicaaaa

I recently visited the city of Thessaloniki, and had a BLAST. As a city, it was pretty dirty with abandoned constructions here and there, but the historical sites and Byzantine style churches for the slightly dampened aesthetics. Despite this, it is a very exciting city with a lively nightlife, and amazing food EVERYWHERE. As an ancient history student, it was pretty exciting to go to a city where Roman ruins are dotted all over the streets, but the best part was definitely the food. We drank ouzo and grappa, ate filo pastries, kebabs, fish, spicy peppers drenched in olive oil, and everything tasted so darn good. So despite the little bit of grime, I highly recommend a visit to this city for some serious sensorial stimulation.

we weren’t quite sure what this cake/pasty thing was but it was absolutely delicious, with flakey layers of filo pastry separated by a creamy custard paste, so so good

this restaurant had just opened and we asked the waiter to choose us whatever he recommended. I had a grilled piece of white fish on a bed of spinach, wilted in lemon cream, and I am stealing some of Donald’s squid ink risotto. Simplistic deliciousness

ouzo!
